Making the 21st Century Cities – ebook

The beginning of the XXI century clearly demonstrates that begins to increase interest in municipal settlement units. This is a new trend, completely the opposite to the deglomeracion processes that accompanied the socio-economic development in the second half of the of the twentieth century. The increased interest in cities has its many factors, where the first place it should be noted technical and technological changes and the factors of a social nature, which enabled a significant increase quality of life in the city. As a result gained great significance in urban regeneration processes that allow you to protect existing urban substance and simultaneously adapt it to new conditions of socio-economic conditions. 

This book entitled "Making the twenty-first century cities" focuses on key issues and factors of urban development in the new formula Smart-City. The book discusses therefore the most important factors affecting the socio-economic transformation in the cities, and also presents the results of empirical studies relating to the City of Vienna, which for many years is considered to be the city with the highest standard of living in the world, ahead in this area of the city such as Zurich or Auckland. It should be emphasized that the book, because of the multithreaded nature, provides a good starting point for broader research on the essence of transformation and revitalization of urban space and research on the choice of the individual path of development for urban settlement units 


Początek XXI wieku wyraźnie dowodzi, że zaczyna wzrastać zainteresowanie miejskimi jednostkami osadniczymi. Jest to nowa tendencja, całkowicie przeciwstawna procesom deglomeracyjnym które towarzyszyły rozwojowi społeczno-gospodarczemu w II poł. XX wieku. Wzrost zainteresowania miastami ma swoje liczne uwarunkowania, gdzie na pierwszym miejscu należy wskazać zmiany techniczne i technologiczne oraz uwarunkowania o charakterze społecznym, które umożliwiły znaczące podniesienie jakości życia w mieście. W efekcie dużego znaczenia nabrały procesy rewitalizacyjne w miastach, które pozwalają zachować istniejącą substancję miejską i jednocześnie dostosować ją do nowych uwarunkowań o charakterze społeczno-ekonomicznych. 

Należy podkreślić, że książka pt: „Making the XXI century cities" koncentruje się na najważniejszych problemach oraz czynnikach rozwoju miast w nowej formule Smart-City. W książce omówiono zatem najważniejsze czynniki wpływające na przemiany społeczno-ekonomiczne w miastach, a także zaprezentowano wyniki badań empirycznych odnoszących się do miasta Wiednia, które od szeregu lat uważane jest na świecie za miasto o najwyższym poziomie życia, wyprzedzając w tym zakresie miasta takie jak Zurych czy Auckland. Należy zwrócić także uwagę, że książka ze względu na wielowątkowy charakter stanowi dobry punkt wyjścia do szerszych badań na istotą przekształceń oraz rewitalizacji przestrzeni miejskiej i badań nad wyborem indywidualnej ścieżki rozwoju dla miejskich jednostek osadniczych.
